1.2 Design Criteria & Statutory Basis

NBCS 2026 Pt.E · CPHEEO · NGT 2019
Shown beside the total demand in section 03, the DBR and the Excel export — for information only. Tanks, pumps, sewage and the STP stay on the full demand. Pool, cooling-tower and boiler make-up, process water and fire top-up stay at 100 %.
Codes & Standards in Force The documents this tool draws on. Selecting them moved no calculation, so the picker is hidden rather than kept as a control that does nothing — the declaration still travels in the project and the report still schedules it.

3.1 Domestic Water Demand

NBCS 2026 Pt.E Sec.1 Cl.4.1.1 · Table 1 — occupancy from the schedule in 02
Hot Water Requirement & Generation
Cl.4.14.3 sizes storage on the maximum short time demand — the morning peak — not the day's average: 50–75 L at 60 °C for a dwelling with a bath tub, 25 L for a shower or tap, and the vessel not less than 20 % in excess. Enter the dwellings served and the Standard's basis governs; the percentage-of-daily figure below is kept only as a cross-check and is not a Cl.4.14 basis.
Basis: Q = m × Cp × ΔT / t, with Cp = 4.186 kJ/kg·K and water at 1000 kg/m³. The result is heat at the point of transfer — add generation efficiency, standing loss and a simultaneity allowance before selecting a heat pump, solar thermal array or calorifier. Storage below 60 °C is a legionella risk; use thermostatic mixing at the outlets rather than lowering the store.
Nos. is the count of units the rate is multiplied by, in whatever the Basis column names — beds for a hotel, persons for an office. Enter it directly, or leave it to be computed as Rooms × Occupancy per Room. Hot and Cold are the two figures you set, and Domestic is their sum. The one you are not typing holds still, so raising the hot demand does not silently move the cold. Click ▸ on any row to open its end uses — bathing, kitchen, laundry, and so on for that building type; overwriting a rate rescales that split so the breakdown still adds up to the row. Table 1 states a minimum, so a higher rate is a legitimate design decision — the cell shows the code figure beneath it and the report lists every departure as the project’s own.

3.2 Non-Domestic & Ancillary Demands

CTI/ASHRAE · GRIHA landscape · NBC Pt.4 (fire)
Landscape & Horticulture Irrigation
HVAC Cooling Tower Make-up
Basis: E = 0.00085 × 1.8 × ΔT(°C) × Circulation (m³/h)  |  B = E/(COC−1) − D  |  M = E + D + B = E·COC/(COC−1). Blowdown is routed to the STP inlet where quality permits; otherwise to drain.
Swimming Pool / Water Bodies
Cl.4.19 sizes the pool properly: user load from surface area, turnover rate by pool type, filter area from the filtration rate, and backwash at not less than 30 m³/m²/h. Make-up is evaporation plus that backwash. Evaporation itself carries no NBCS figure by either route — a rate over the water surface is the physical basis, a share of the pool volume is what many briefs ask for, and whichever is chosen is stated in the report as the project's own allowance.
Shower area. Showers beside the pool — a supply the pool's own fill, make-up and backwash never carry. Number of showers × litres per minute is a flow: what the main and the hot water plant carry at once. It becomes a daily volume, and joins the demand, only once the minutes of use are stated. The litres per minute opens at the Standard's figure for the fittings set in 1.2.
Process / Industrial & Miscellaneous Demands
DescriptionWater QualityDemand KLDReturn to Effluent %Effluent KLD
Fire Fighting Static Storage (not a recurring demand)
Per NBCS 2026 Part F — Fire and Life Safety, to which NBCS 2026 Pt.E/Sec.1 Cl.4.1.4 refers the firefighting requirement, static storage is dedicated and excluded from the daily water balance; only make-up for evaporation/testing is accounted. Fire tank first-fill must however be included in the source capacity assessment.

4.6 Solid Waste Management

NBCS 2026 Pt.E Sec.3 Cl.5.1 · 4.3 · 6.2.1
Cl.5.1 gives each generation rate as a range; the midpoint is used unless you enter a project rate. The total divides 60 % organic / 40 % inorganic. Waste follows people, so beds, seats and passengers contribute only through the population in the occupancy schedule.
